Advanced Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound to Help Diagnose and Treat Injuries and Illnesses Fast
Digital radiology—or digital X-ray—is a very useful diagnostic tool for determining what is happening inside your pet’s body. Digital X-rays offer our veterinarians instant access to the images captured and use less radiation than conventional X-rays. This gives our doctors a powerful tool to quickly diagnose and treat your pet.
X-rays can give clear, detailed images of your pets’ bones, heart and lungs, digestive system, bladder, and reproductive organs. Interpretation of these images requires great expertise on the part of the veterinarian.
It is important that we are able to obtain a clear image, which is sometimes difficult with wiggly or uncooperative pets. On occasion, we will need to sedate or use a short acting anesthesia in order to keep your pet perfectly still while we take X-rays for various orthopedic exams.
Ultrasonography or ultrasound is another diagnostic tool that is useful for looking at the soft tissue internal organs and systems of your pet. Ultrasound is very useful in detecting excess fluid, cysts, tumors, or abscesses as well as visualizing the heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and other organs. Ultrasound is also a completely safe method for confirming or monitoring a pregnancy in your pet.
Ultrasound uses sound waves emitted from a probe. This device is slowly moved over the area of interest, using a lubricating gel to form an image of your pet’s internal organs. It is painless and has been shown to have no side effects.
